The music video was shot on September 19th, 2012. She was spotted on September 19th at Venice Beach in Los Angeles filming the music video for "Oath". Background & Recording
Oath was originally written by songwriters Ammar Malik and Emily Wright, along with help from producers Dr. Luke, Cirkut and Robopop, for inclusion on Lloyd's second studio album, slated for release in 2013. However, when it was revealed that Lloyd's debut album, Sticks + Stones, was set to be revised for the American and Australian markets, Lloyd's producers decided to use the track as one of the release's lead singles, and teamed Lloyd up with aspiring American rapper Rebecca Gomez, better known as Becky G, who wrote her own verse, to appear on the track. Thus, Oath was released as the album's second single, following Want U Back, in both the United States and Australia, and also featured on the version of the album released in Japan. The track itself premiered on New York radio station Z100 FM on September 7, 2012. In promotion of the single, Lloyd performed it live solo on The Today Show and Live! with Kelly and Michael and with Becky G on The X Factor USA, in front of her mentor and manager, Simon Cowell.
On the week of 15 December 2012, the song debuted at #99 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Cher's second entry in that chart. One week later, the song rose to #73, its peak to date. In the mainstream radio, "Oath" peaked at #30.
Outside of the US, in the Canada, the song peaked at #58 in its fourth week on the chart. In the New Zealand, the song started out at number #38, marking Cher's third top 40 hit in the country following "With Ur Love" and "Want U Back". Six weeks later, the song peaked at #13, Cher's second highest rank losing just to "Want U Back" which peaked at #3.
